When my brother was small, he asked our mother why we didn’t have a birthday cake if Christmas was the birthday of Baby Jesus.
Good question. So from that time on, every Christmas eve we celebrated the birth of our Savior with a birthday cake. Usually we took the ceramic Christ child and manger from the Nativity scene, colored coconut yellow like hay to put on the frosting, and put a large candle in the middle. If I recall correctly, the youngest children got to blow out the candle after we sang Happy Birthday to Jesus. The next morning Jesus appeared on time in the Nativity scene…
My sister still carries on this tradition. She invites the neighbors for this festive occasion, and since often some are not believers in Jesus, it is a great time to share the story of how and why He came to this earth about 2000 years ago. This celebration is a great way you can share with your neighbors as well.
Aunt Bertha’s Favorite Two Egg Cake
2 1/2 cups flour; 2 1/4 tsp baking powder; 1/4 tsp salt; 1/2 cup butter; 1 cup sugar; 2 eggs (well beaten); 3/4 cups milk; 1/2 tsp vanilla.
Sift flour, measure, add baking powder, salt and sift three times. Cream butter, add sugar and cream well. Add eggs and mix. Add flour and milk alternately. Add flavoring. Makes two 9 inch layers. Bake in 375 degree oven for 25 minutes.

How funny you would post this! Leah was just asking aobut this the other day and we had just decided to do a birthday party for Jesus too! We have party hats, invitations, cake, banners, etc all ready. I’m hoping it will become a new family tradition too.
